First Look: New Gozney Tread Pizza Oven

The year 2025 is just getting started, and I already have a new pizza oven innovation to announce! Gozney, the manufacturer of some of the highest quality ovens on the market, has shared that they are making a new oven called Tread. As the name suggests, this oven is rugged and meant for use in the outdoors.

In years past, the only way to make really great pizza was in a restaurant-quality kitchen or custom-built home oven. Later, in the 2010s, manufacturers began to produce portable pizza ovens for home use. Now, Gozney is pushing the limits of a final frontier: making it possible for people to cook amazing pizza even if they don’t have a backyard. Going camping? Take the Tread with you!

The Tread looks like a mini Gozney Arc (or a very small Gozney Dome)—and that’s no coincidence. It seems like Gozney has taken their really effective lateral burner design and scaled it down for this smaller, more portable 12″ model.

The Arc XL is one of my favorite ovens. It might be the most user-friendly oven we’ve tested, so I’m really curious how this new, more portable little brother oven will perform!

Now, if you are familiar with Gozney’s pizza oven lineup, you might be wondering: How will this oven be different from the Roccbox? I’m very familiar with the Roccbox; it was the first portable pizza oven that I ever owned. Like the Tread, the Roccbox can be moved just about anywhere. I have taken it tailgating to college football games a few times. So why do we need the Tread when we already have the Roccbox option? If the Tread is anything like the Arc (and it sure looks and sounds like it is), then the upgraded side burner should offer vastly improved control over how much direct heat you’re delivering to your food while also giving you a better view of your cooking.

Despite how compact and light the Tread will be, Gozney says that there will be enough space to fit a skillet so that you can cook lots of other foods, too, such as steak or roasted vegetables.

Gozney will be manufacturing accessories for the Tread that really cater to the adventurous outdoorsy types. There will be a “Roof Rack” ancillary that you can attach to the top of the oven to give you much-needed prep space if you’re in the middle of nowhere. Gozney will also produce a “Mantel” that you can attach to the front of the cooking surface in order to make turning, checking, basting, and resting your food easier.

I’m really excited to get my hands on this oven! Gozney says that the Tread heats up AND cools down quickly …. They claim that the Tread will cool in under 20 minutes, which sounds perfect for camping. No waiting on the oven before hitting the road! I will add collecting cool-down data to my usual pizza oven testing protocol to hopefully verify this claim.

The Tread will be available to order from Gozney.com on March 11. The color options will be off-black and olive. Here are some expected prices:
